Dumbbells

Dumb bells, weighted cuffs, medicine balls, kettlebells, weighted vests, bars, resistance bands, weight machines are all used for weight training or strength training or resistance training. If you crave 16" of well defined biceps then these are what you need to use, among other things..

At the outset, a gentle reminder, it takes humungous efforts and more to achieve and maintain such sculpted physique and even then not all may achieve it simply because each one of us has a specific body type and metabolism.

Resistance training is an integral part of a good well rounded workout. It offers huge benefits besides improving muscle mass. Its important to use the correct technique, breathe correctly and always always progress. So if you have been doing only biceps curls with a 2lbs dumbbell for a while, its time to pep it up a bit. Change the movement, change the repetitions, change your position (do the exercise on a Swiss ball). Consult a trainer instead of trying to figure out by yourself. Consider doing Repetitive Maximum sets under guidance for better results.

Whatever your goals, its vital to do a proper warm up and cool down when using weights. Resting the exercised muscles is vital  as well so they get time to recover and become stronger and bigger. Practically it means do not strength train the same group of muscles on consecutive days.

Strength training can be an entire blog by itself and I am not doing the topic justice here. This is just a teaser and something to get you to improve your workout if required. To read more about how muscles grow, visit this site: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/issa7.htm
