Hello! Welcome to my seventh attempt at the April AtoZ blogging challenge. My theme this year is Experiences of a first time grandmother! Some sweet, salty moments and learnings! My posts are totally based on what I felt (may even border on rants) and are not meant to be a guide.
Grandparents.
The word conjures a silver haired couple with happily wrinkled faces who find it difficult to keep up with their grandkids.
As I look around me, I find that people of my generation are fairly fit and only a few have chosen to turn silver! (Self excluded!!) We don't really fit into the picture mentioned above.
In an era when family members live or work in distant places, we have to befriend technology. This has meant we have to learn to use the computer, email, smartphones, different Apps (for online shopping or food deliveries or digital payments) and so on.
I miss my Cassette collection of kids songs... Sigh.. And My brain refuses to let me remember beyond a couple of lines. Sometimes I only remember the tune, no words.
Very embarassing!
If only the cassette player was functional...
But.. there is hope!!! You Tube, Facebook are two places where I have found 'old' Marathi baby songs, poems and even stories. Yay!!
What do you think of tech savvy grandparents? How have you used technology?
I am sure my post may cause a deja vu to some of you.. especially anyone who has hosted a new born. I would love to hear from you!
See you tomorrow folks!

Times have changed. Gone are the days where grandparents meant people who were visibly old and fragile. People are more aware and with the advance technology and medical help a lot has changed. It was wonderful reading your post
Oh, grand parents are getting tech savvy. My mother calls her grandchildren for all her social media queries :D And she video calls us. The other day, I was telling her that once the lock down is lifted, we still will have to wear masks and take precautions. So next day she called me to say that she has seen the tutorials for masks on YouTube and will make cloth masks for all of us. I was stumped and impressed :D
The best part of the grandparents being tech savvy now is that they can stay connected with kids even if they do not stay together. Grandparents today are more involved and with times ad thus, their connect with kids is better
@Simrit Thank you so much! :-)
@Shilpa Your Grandmother rocks!! Yes, grandkids are the best guide to familiarise grandparents with gadgets! Thanks for stopping by!
@Arushi Yes technology has been a big help to us grandparents! Thanks for stopping by ! :-)
The image of grandparents has definitely changed. Even looking at pictures of previous generations at the same age make that clear. Keeping up with technology is important too since it's how our world stays connected now. Weekends In Maine
@Weekends in Maine You have hit the nail on the head! Happy to see you here! :-)
Grandparents!! Ah!! The word itself holds so much of love and affection in it. It's true that to keep up with world today , they need to acquaint themselves with technology but again at the end of the day, what matters is the inner satisfaction and joy. If you find solace in listening old Marathi songs and youtube & facebook are coming up to the rescue, then why not? If you feel connected to your family through a video call, make best use of it. The looks are another story. I have a gorgeous aunt who is grandmother to three kids. If standing together, she looks no older than her grand daughters. I hope you are enjoying this beautiful phase of life :). Regards.
@Navita Thank you so much! Yes its a wonderful time in my life!
